Star artist Jeff Koons is returning to the mega-gallery after a four-year hiatus with Pace.
Previously, over the course of two decades, Gagosian did 13 solo exhibitions with Koons at its branches in Beverly Hills, Hong Kong, London, and New York. In 2014, at Rockefeller Center in New York, Gagosian presented the Pop king’s Split-Rocker (2000), a massive sculpture combining the heads of a toy dinosaur and pony that is covered with over 50,000 flowering plants. The Whitney Museum of American Art hosted a Koons retrospective in 2014 its Madison Avenue location—its last major show there before decamping to its new Downtown home in the Meatpacking District.
Koons has also had landmark exhibitions at Versailles in France (in 2008), the Schirn Kunsthalle and Liebieghaus in Frankfurt, Germany, in 2012, and the Palazzo Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Italy (2015).
“If I could be one other living person,” Koons remarked at the time, “it would probably be Michael Jackson.“That’s radicality. That’s abstraction,”
